Healthy Eating Action Plan

Develop Your Own Healthy Eating Action Plan!

Develop a 5 day menu based on your Basal Metabolic Rate and Total Daily Caloric Need using Canada's Food Guide.

Suggestions on how to complete the assignment:

Step 1: Record you Basal Metabolic Rate and your Total Daily Caloric Need in the spaces provided. You would have obtained these numbers from the "Understanding Calories" section.

Step 2: Plan healthy meals for 5 days. This should include 3 meals per day including beverages and snacks.

Step 3: Make a tally of the number of Food Servings for each section of Canada's Food Guide. Compare the numbers with the Percentage of Food Servings per Day as outlined by Canada's Food Guide. (50% Fruits and Vegetables, 25% Protein - try to get non-animal based, 25% Breads and Grains - preferably whole grains). If they do not match try to adjust your plan to meet the daily requirements.

Step 4: Using an online resource or an app for your mobile device calculate the Total Caloric Intake per day for your meal plan and record it in the chart provided. Compare the Total Daily Caloric Need and Total Caloric Intake to see if you are meeting your caloric needs each day. Please note, the numbers from the two sections may not be exact. This is normal because you are using estimates to help guide your intake.
