Eating!

 

Healthy eating, along with regular physical activity, plays an essential role in maintaining and improving health. Healthy eating nourishes the body and provides the energy needed to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. Many people are aware of this information and often want to eat better than they do. However, there is a lot of food and nutrtion related inforamtion bombarding consumers that leave many confused and unsure.

The objetcives of this unit will be:

  • Identify the essential nutrients of food (i.e. carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins, minerals and water).

  • Identify and analyse the impacts of eating practices on personal well-being

  • Evaluate health benefits/risks associated with eating practices.

  • Critically analyse the impact of eating practices on the prevention and/or development of chronic health conditions

  • Analyse personal eating practices.

  • Identify challenges to healthy eating

  • Evaluate the relationship between physical activity and dietary requirements

  • Develop a Personal Eating Plan which incorporates the recommendations of Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating and which takes into account cultural values and beliefs
